3対1とリードして迎えた最終回、東濃実の先発・高橋璃久投手（2年）が安打と四球で無死一、二塁のピンチを迎えた。金井辰彦監督はここで長谷部虎太朗投手（3年）をマウンドへ送った。
7日の海津明誠戦では延長十回、120球を投げ抜き2失点で完投勝ちした不動のエースだ。
「絶対抑えてやる」。1死を取り、打席には岐阜のエース小倉悠叶選手（3年）。追い込んだがファウルで粘られる。「空振りせずついてくる。執念を感じた」。ついにチェンジアップが甘く入り、同点の適時打を浴びた。
「焦ってしまった」。動揺は収まらず、スライダーの制球が不安定になる。8番の佐藤陽斗選手（3年）には痛恨の勝ち越し適時打を打たれた。
金井監督は「投手交代が遅れた継投ミス。僕の責任です」とかばった。
試合後、号泣する長谷部投手の背中を仲間がさすり、慰めると、「高橋が頑張ってつないでくれたのに。みんなに申し訳ない」と声を絞り出した。
県内有数の好投手の夏が終わった。「みんなとずっと一緒に野球をやりたかった。終わりたくなかった」。また涙があふれた。（高原敦）
