Grammar and Sentence Structure
Sentence: 「日本マクドナルドは19日、全国約3千店のうち約900店で朝からレジに不具合が発生し、営業を一時停止したと明らかにした。」
Grammatical Points:
- 「のうち」: This phrase indicates a subset of a larger group. Here, it specifies that out of approximately 3,000 stores, about 900 stores are being referred to.
- 「発生し」: This is the conjunctive form of the verb 「発生する」 (to occur), which connects to the next clause.
- 「明らかにした」: This is the past tense of 「明らかにする」 (to clarify or make clear), indicating that the subject has made a statement about the situation.
Structure:
- The sentence starts with the subject “日本マクドナルドは” (Japan McDonald’s), followed by the date “19日” (19th). It then introduces the context of the stores with “全国約3千店のうち約900店で” (out of approximately 3,000 stores nationwide, about 900 stores). The main action is described with “朝からレジに不具合が発生し” (from the morning, a malfunction occurred at the registers), leading to the conclusion “営業を一時停止したと明らかにした” (made it clear that operations were temporarily suspended).
Sentence: 「残る約500店もスタッフの態勢などが整い次第、再開するとした。」
Grammatical Points:
- 「整い次第」: This is a conditional phrase meaning “as soon as it is arranged/prepared.” It combines the verb 「整う」 (to be arranged) with 「次第」 (as soon as).
- 「とした」: This indicates a decision or intention, often translated as “decided to” or “was said to.”
Structure:
- The sentence begins with “残る約500店も” (the remaining approximately 500 stores), indicating the subject. It then includes the conditional clause “スタッフの態勢などが整い次第” (as soon as the staff’s arrangements are in place), which modifies the action that follows. The main clause concludes with “再開するとした” (it was decided to resume operations).
Sentence: 「マクドナルドでは3月にも大規模なシステム障害が発生。」
Grammatical Points:
- 「では」: This particle indicates the topic of the sentence, which in this case is “マクドナルド” (McDonald’s).
- 「大規模な」: This is a noun modifier meaning “large-scale,” describing the type of system failure.
- 「発生」: This noun form of the verb “発生する” (to occur) indicates that an event has taken place.
Structure:
- The sentence starts with the topic “マクドナルドでは” (as for McDonald’s), followed by the time reference “3月にも” (also in March). The main clause states “大規模なシステム障害が発生” (a large-scale system failure occurred), presenting the event that took place.
