Grammar and Sentence Structure
野田氏は党首会談が実現すれば、臨時国会の首相指名選挙での対応をめぐり協議したい考え。
Grammatical Points:
- 「実現すれば」: This is a conditional form of the verb 実現する (to realize/actualize), using the conditional suffix ば. It indicates that if the meeting is realized, then something else will follow.
- 「考え」: This noun means “thought” or “consideration,” and in this context, it indicates the speaker’s intention or desire.
Structure:
- The sentence begins with the subject (野田氏) followed by the main clause (党首会談が実現すれば) which sets the condition. The latter part (臨時国会の首相指名選挙での対応をめぐり協議したい考え) expresses what 野田氏 wants to do if the condition is met, indicating his intention to discuss matters related to the prime ministerial election.
玉木氏は12日午後、記者団に「(野党間の)政策の一致が必要だ。特に政権を担うことになれば、国家運営の基本に関わるのは安全保障だ」と指摘。
Grammatical Points:
- 「必要だ」: This is a declarative form indicating necessity. It asserts that something is required.
- 「担うことになれば」: This phrase uses the verb 担う (to bear/to take on) in a conditional form, suggesting that if they take on the government, certain implications follow.
Structure:
- The sentence starts with the subject (玉木氏) and the time reference (12日午後). It then introduces a direct quote that consists of two parts: the first part states the necessity of policy agreement among opposition parties, and the second part elaborates on the importance of security in the context of governance, indicating the implications of taking on governmental responsibilities.
立憲に対して「足して2で割って真ん中のような話ではない。現行の安全保障の法体系(安保法制)と、それに基づく日米の防衛協力体制を認めるか認めないのか、明確に答えを党として出してほしい」と求めた。
Grammatical Points:
- 「足して2で割って真ん中のような話ではない」: This idiomatic expression means that the situation is not as simple as averaging two positions; it implies that a more nuanced or clear stance is needed.
- 「認めるか認めないのか」: This structure presents a choice between two alternatives, using the verb 認める (to acknowledge/recognize) in both affirmative and negative forms.
Structure:
- The sentence begins with the subject (玉木氏) and introduces a direct quote. The quote first asserts that the discussion with 立憲 is not merely about compromise. It then poses a clear question regarding the recognition of the current security legal framework and the U.S.-Japan defense cooperation, emphasizing the need for a definitive answer from the party. The structure highlights the importance of clarity in political positions.
