前沢友作氏、月周回旅行の中止を発表 応募した搭乗者からは不満の声
実業家の前沢友作さんは1日、米スペースXの宇宙船で予定していた民間初の月周回旅行について、宇宙船の完成の見通しが立たないとして、計画を中止するとX（旧ツイッター）で発表した。
前沢さんは2018年、宇宙船「スターシップ」で月を回って帰還する1週間ほどの旅行を同社と契約。100万人を超える応募者から、韓国の歌手など6カ国8人を搭乗者に選んでいた。
スターシップは高さ約50メートルの新型宇宙船。今年3月に約1時間の宇宙飛行をしたが、大気圏突入後に信号が消えるなど開発の遅れが指摘されていた。
前沢さんはXで「いつ飛べるのかの展望が全出ていません。このままでは僕自身の人生計画が立てられないし、誘ったクルーをこれ以上お待たせし続けるのも申し訳ない」と中止する理由を説明した。当初は23年の打ち上げを予定していた。
月周回旅行の主催者側も「近い将来における実現の見通しも不明瞭であることから、苦渋の決断ではありますが、やむをえず本プロジェクトを中止することにした」と発表した。
ただ、宇宙開発に遅れは必至で、搭乗予定の参加者からは不満の声も出た。米国のユーチューバー、ティム・ドッドさんは「（搭乗決定の）発表から1年半で中止する可能性があると知っていたら、承知しなかった。事前に何も知らなかった」とXに投稿した。（石倉徹也）
